Everyone knows that cleaning the lint is very important every time you use the dryer. However, there are also other parts of the dryer that need careful attention to ensure they’re always running in tip-top shape.

To help you on where to start, here are some ways you can do to start maintaining your dryer in its entirety:
- Clear the lint screen
Although this may feel tedious and maybe not worth your time, cleaning your lint screen after each dry load will save you time and money in the long run. Lint can be dangerous; the motor could burn out and potentially catch fire if you don’t remove it. The reason for this is that lint buildup prevents adequate airflow, trapping the heat inside the dryer.
Pull out the lint screen, typically located in the bottom of the door pocket or the back corner of the top panel. Pull the screen straight out. You can use your hands to gather the lint from the screen, run them across the screen, and gather all the lint into a ball.
Once you have a small ball of lint, you can rub the ball over the screen, which will attract more lint. You can also wipe fabric softener on the screen to remove residual lint. If there’s a ton of lint, use a cleaning brush or a vacuum with a brush attachment to collect the lint. Source: Angi
- Keep the inside and outside of the appliance clean
Giving the drum a wipe down using a mild, non-abrasive cleaning product or a solution of vinegar and water with a soft cloth will help keep the machine free of any nasty odour. Use the same cleaning product or vinegar solution to wipe down the front, sides and back of the machine.
- Give your tumble dryer space to breathe
Your tumble dryer needs space around its back and side to ventilate properly, so avoid squeezing it into tight spaces. The most space-efficient solution may be to stack your tumble dryer on top of your washing machine, so check out this article if you want to learn how to do this. Source: Beko
- Be careful what you put in the dryer
This clothes dryer maintenance tip is one of the simplest to do: make sure all pockets are free of loose objects like pens, coins, lipstick, or any other items that may damage clothes. Additionally, always wash wet clothes before drying them to make sure all dirt is rinsed off.
- Check the vents and ducts
Besides cleaning out the vent and ducts/pipes for excess lint, you also want to check that the ductwork provides optimal airflow. Make sure there aren’t any kinks in the venting system so that air flows freely out. Consider hiring a professional appliance technician for those dirtier jobs.
